About Us
Pleasant View Lutheran Church, an inclusive, intergenerational community stiving to grow closer to God and our neighbors, has been serving the Indianapolis community since 1844. We are a congregation in the Indiana-Kentucky Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
Over the years, this community has gathered in many different ways in many different places. We have built several different church buildings, gathered in homes, and gathered virtually. The community is currently nomadic, having recently sold our last facility to A Children’s Habitat Montessori School after re-evaluating our priorities and resources. We currently rent space back from the school for our Sunday morning gatherings, as we seek out our next location. We believe that God leads and accompanies us in all of these changes, bringing us to fresh ways of existing and connecting to our community.
Our Mission: To live in Christ & share God’s love!
We believe in the ever-expanding and inclusive love of God as revealed to us through the Holy Scriptures and in the person of Jesus Christ. God’s love extends to all, and God delights in all creation and all people in their diverse complexity. Race, ethnic background, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, marital status, neorodivsersity, disability, political affiliation, age, educational achievements, etc. – none of these things separate us from the love of God, and none of them will exclude you from our community.
We believe in hands-on service to our neighbors as well as sharing love through advocacy and continuing our own education. Everyone is a bearer of the image of God, and we endeavour to see and honor that in all circumstances.
We take the Bible seriously – so seriously that we do not read it all literally. Our scriptures connect us to our ancestors in faith. They contain stories of God’s action in their lives, which can help us to see how God shows up in our lives and world today. The scriptures also reveal to us the person of Jesus Christ, in whom is our salvation, hope, and example. The scriptures as a whole paint a picture of a God who is loving, faithful, and just – truths that endure across all time.
